Identity Protection

You know what though, shredding is the one part of identity protection that's already fun. I have a shredder in my home office and I love shredding things (often when I should be getting actual work done). I find myself finding bits of paper and talking myself into the need to shred it.How's about this for a fun time. To help deter identity theft, First Tennessee will host a Community Shred event. People can get together and have a good old shed and meet friends at the same time.

"Well, this flier for the gig I want to last June doesn't have any of my details on it, but I wouldn’t' want someone to know that I'm into jazz or they might work out when they next big gig is on and then they could break in, safe in the knowledge that I'm out."

So I shred everything. It's great. There's a feeling of destruction that I think we all secretly love.

Still, it's good to bring people's attention to it. By not shredding you are risking the lost of some important details which could let someone steal your identity.

Owning and using a paper shredder is a great first line defense against identity theft. I recently ran across this great article about shredders and how they help to protect against identity theft.
